BAGN Membership and Free Events:
We invite all members and nonmembers of the community irrespective of age to participate in all socio-cultural events and festivals. We strongly encourage everybody to become a member of BAGN and enjoy membership benefits. We would like to remind you that members of BAGN have the privilege to enjoy three events for FREE: Poila Baishak, Picnic, and Election Day, in addition to the DISCOUNTED admission to all other events. Please note that the BAGN membership (other than life members) is valid and counts for a full financial year (April to March) instead of calendar year. If anyone, for example, paid his/her membership fee in October, 2008 (at the time of Durga puja) that fee covers his/her membership benefits up to March 2009. So, becoming a member at the beginning brings more benefits and allows you to express your opinion to improve BAGN.
Regular Events:
Charity and Fundraising Events: BAGN conducts several fundraising initiatives to collect funds for charitable purposes throughout the year. BAGN has donated funds for relief works for Hurricane Katrina, Tsunami, Floods in Bangladesh and Tornado relief in Tennessee among many others. We collected clothes, shoes etc. and donated to Salvation Army. Our members volunteer in different charitable activities like homeless lunch and Habitat for Humanity in collaboration with other area associations like India Association of Nashville and Hindu Cultural Society. April- Poila Baishakh (Bengali New Year): This is a social event celebrating Bengali New Year. On this day we welcome and greet each other, wish a happy new year, enjoy ethnic food followed usually by a musical evening. Venue: First Unitarian Church of Nashville.
July/August- Picnic: This event is full of fun mostly with barbecue in the park, soccer, volleyball, musical chair, tug of war, dress as you like and other activities for adults. Kids love picnic where they may play with other kids, ride a boat, swim, have various activities and games like sit and draw, spoon and egg race, soccer and karate competition. Venue: Percy Priest Lake Park or other state park, Nashville.
September/October- Durga Puja (autumn festival): This is a major three day mega event and a showcase of performing arts, music, drama, dance and children’s programs. Activities include daily puja rituals, lunch, dinner, social intercourse and cultural evenings. The following week we usually have Laxmi Puja, worshipping the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Both these events are attended by few hundred people from Tennessee and other states. People from other religious beliefs, skin color or origin attend this festival. Venue: Sri Ganesha Temple Auditorium/ Prasadam Hall, Nashville.
September/October- Agamani (Annual publication): Agamani is the annual publication f BAGN with short stories, essays, poems, memoirs, songs and paintings of adults and children from the community and outside guests in Bengali and English language. At the same time a directory of community members are published along with advertisements from businesses. Agamani is published during autumn festival.
October/November- Bijoya (Family reunion): This is a social evening where we enjoy the company of friends and families of the community members. This is traditionally a day of making up the differences. We meet and greet each other, promise to forget all misunderstandings of the past, pay respect to the elders and offer blessings for the young. Usually the event follows a cultural evening and dinner. Venue: First Unitarian Church of Nashville.
February- Saraswati Puja (Celebration of Knowledge and Arts): This is an event attended by mostly students and their parents to celebrate knowledge and performing arts. The event follows lunch and a cultural evening, again presented mostly by children. Venue: Sri Ganesha Temple Auditorium, Nashville
Education (Bengali school): BAGN is a part of Sunday School Program of Sri Ganesha Temple of Nashville and started classes to teach Bengali language.

March- Election and General Body meeting: This is the event where members elect the office bearers through an open and fair democratic process. They also take important decisions regarding the association. There are also few other General Body meetings throughout the year for democratic functioning of the organization. They are restricted to members only.
